A beginner's mind is one that is open and free of preconceived ideas, opinions and judgements. When we are born, we enter the world with a beginner's mind. Everything is new and all of our firsts are celebrated. As we grow, our minds become full of preconceived opinions and ideas. We want to show off our strengths and cover up our struggles. We reconnect with that beginner's mind through the practice of mindfulness. Through mindfulness, we are able to know and accept that struggle is actually a part of learning. Once we let go of thinking we are experts, and keep our minds and hearts open, we can find that even a beginner has something to teach us.
When we see the world through the perspective of a beginner's mind, each day is a new day and each moment is a new moment. We can appreciate who we are and what we have. We are able to be more kind, more compassionate and more empathetic toward others, and we end up living our lives in a more open and balanced way.
